Why I am Running for Re-Election...

"You get from your community what you put into it"

My passion continues to be the success of the Klein community that I have lived and invested in for 25 years. The single greatest indicator for the success of our community is from the public education that our students receive from Klein ISD. I am running for re-election to continue the upward trajectory of Klein ISD and our community.

Strengths of Klein ISD

From being a Klein resident for 25 years, and volunteering in the Klein ISD for the last 21 years, I have seen and experienced the following three areas of strengths within the Klein community:

01

Our Students

Our Klein ISD students continue to excel in the “triple-As” of Academics, Arts, and Athletics. The very best part of every one of the Board meetings I have attended are the student recognitions for what is simply outstanding achievements in their respective arenas. Klein ISD continues to excel in each of the “triple-As”, but the students are the key component. We have exceptional students that I enjoy recognizing and being a small part of their success.

02

Our Teachers and Staff

Our Klein ISD staff just continues to amaze. It takes a Herculean effort these days to engage with students and keep them on the paths to success, especially with the hindrances and outside forces at play from folks in Austin. Klein ISD, while being at an economically disadvantaged level of approximately 60%, continues to improve in the TEA Accountability Rankings, with 4 out of the 5 high schools now sitting as A-rated, with the only one not in that list having improved 8 points to an 89. Seeing the staff across the district excited with these results just reiterates how much they care and want to keep getting better.

03

Our Community

Our Klein community is second-to-none, and is one that I have devoted a large portion of both my professional and extra-curricular time investing in. We have a special thing in Klein, from the founding-family heritages that we hold dear, to the PTOs and Booster Clubs at so many schools, that give up so much time, donations, and effort into making this community what it is.

Challenges for Klein ISD

This day in time, it's impossible to be perfect. Leading through adversity should be the goal of every school board trustee, and is a facet of this position that I take very seriously. I've observed the following challenges over the years:

01

Budgeting and School Funding

Budget and school funding issues have been caused by the Texas Legislation ineffectiveness. This challenge is extremely frustrating. As a Board Trustee, I take my advocacy role very seriously, but at times the things occurring in Austin just make you scratch your head. However, we must continue to keep up the fight in pushing to fully fund our public schools in Texas.

02

Educating the Public on School Finance

Educating the public and Klein ISD voters on school-related funding, bond, budget, and other financial aspects has become increasingly difficult due to the default complexities of the topics. The Klein ISD Communications team does an exceptional job trying to educate the public through their social media outlets, Klein Education Foundations lunch-and-learns, etc, but there remains many in the community that struggle to not only understand some of these issues, but don’t even know they are going on. It’s a daily struggle, and one that we continue to try and improve on.

03

Student Safety

We must prioritize preemptive student and family support by identifying troubling indicators long before the decision is made by a student to want to harm others at school. Parental involvement and consistent engagement are key factors in a student’s success. We must be proactive in reaching our families that need help.
